DJ and producer with multiple influences, Elestre defines himself first and foremost as a music hunter. His references range from The Heliocentrics, Massive Attack, and Four Tet to David Axelrod, Sun Ra, Alain Goraguer and Tangerine Dream. Elestre distils an organic Downtempo, with hypnotic sounds and obsessive Groove: Hip Hop Beats and vibrant bass are studded with captivating Rhodes, delirious Jazz brass, psychedelic guitars and rippling synth. Composite in essence, Elestre’s music is almost entirely based on vintage samples unearthed from his dizzying collection of obscure 33 rpm vinyl records. It draws its boundless influences equally from Soul, Funk, Jazz, as well as Rock, experimental music and original film soundtracks. The samples are sheared, transformed and assembled in surreal collages to deliver a unique vision of Beatmaking, all at once innovative and imbued with the very soul of Hip Hop. With ‘Aurore’, Elestre invokes the spirit of dark Trip Hop and erects worlds inhabited by persistent mirages, in the form of sonic magma extracted from the folds of his psyche. By bringing his ardent visions to life, he creates an unreal, cinematic music, for an intense psychic voyage.
